VPOB for Flipkart Seller in Karnataka

myHQ provides a Bangalore virtual office address that serves as your Karnataka Principal Place of Business (PPOB) for GST. With it you register a Karnataka GSTIN (state code 29) and add the Malur, Nelamangala or Hoskote fulfilment centre Flipkart allots you as an Additional Place of Business (APOB), which Flipkart requires before you store Flipkart Fulfilment inventory in the state.

What is a VPOB, and why do Flipkart Fulfilment sellers in Karnataka need one?

A VPOB is a Virtual Place of Business: a commercial address you take on rent purely so that a GST registration can be filed on it in a state where you have no shop or office. Flipkart Fulfilment sellers in Karnataka need one because the tax is administered state by state, and the day Flipkart’s Malur, Nelamangala or Hoskote warehouse receives your cartons you are carrying on business in Karnataka.

The GST portal never uses the word VPOB. It uses PPOB and APOB, and the difference decides which document goes where.

TermFull form and what it means for a Flipkart sellerWhere it appears on the GST portal
PPOB Principal Place of Business: the lead address of your Karnataka registration and the one printed on the certificate; the rented Bangalore address fills this role REG-01, Part B, “Principal Place of Business” tab
APOB Additional Place of Business: every other Karnataka location where your goods sit or your records are kept; the Flipkart FC is filed here REG-01 “Additional Places of Business” tab, or later by Form GST REG-14 (Amendment of Registration Core Fields)
VPOB Virtual Place of Business: the trade name for a rented address used as PPOB; proof is the rent agreement, the owner’s NOC and a recent electricity bill PPOB tab, nature of possession “Rented”

Section 2(85) of the CGST Act, 2017 counts “a warehouse, a godown or any other place where a taxable person stores his goods” as a place of business. Section 22(1) attaches the registration to “the State or Union territory from where he makes a taxable supply”, and Section 25(1) obliges you to apply separately in every such state. A Gujarat or Delhi GSTIN therefore covers nothing dispatched from Kolar or Hoskote. Karnataka’s code in our GST state code list is 29, the first two digits of every Karnataka GSTIN.

Why not register on the warehouse itself? Because Flipkart’s consent letter permits you to store goods on its premises; it does not make you the occupier, and the portal expects a rent or lease agreement or an owner’s consent letter for the PPOB. That is the gap the VPOB registration guide describes and the rented Bangalore address closes. If you are new to the concept, start with what a VPOB is and when you should register one; everything below is specific to Flipkart and to Karnataka.

Malur, Nelamangala and Hoskote: where the Flipkart Karnataka warehouses are

Flipkart does not publish a directory of fulfilment centres or use public codes the way Amazon does, so sellers work from the allotment letter in Seller Hub and from third-party lists. In Karnataka three sites recur: the Malur fulfilment centre in Kolar district to the east, a Nelamangala site to the north-west, and the Hoskote warehouse on the Whitefield side. All are inside Karnataka, GST state code 29, so one Karnataka GSTIN carries whichever you are allotted.

Where is the Malur Flipkart facility?

Malur is Flipkart’s fulfilment centre at Marasandra and Madnahatti-Venkatapura Villages, Kasaba Hobli, Malur Taluk, Kolar district, PIN 563130, about 45 km east of Bengaluru city on the road out through Hoskote. Malur sits in the industrial belt along the Bengaluru to Chennai rail line, and the site is a Flipkart Fulfilment (FBF) warehouse rather than a sort centre, which is why FBF sellers in the south are routinely allotted it. Kolar district is Karnataka, so the requirement is one Karnataka GSTIN, filed on a Bangalore PPOB, with the Malur address added as an APOB before Flipkart books your first inbound appointment.

Where is the Flipkart warehouse in Nelamangala?

Nelamangala is at Pillahalli, Nelamangala Town, in the Kodipalya stretch of Nelamangala taluk, Bengaluru Rural, PIN 562162, north-west of the city on NH 48 (Tumkur Road) and about 30 km from the centre. Whether your allotment letter names Pillahalli or Kodipalya, both are Nelamangala taluk in Karnataka, so the GST answer is unchanged: the Karnataka GSTIN with the exact address from the letter filed as an APOB.

Where is the Flipkart warehouse in Hoskote?

Hoskote is on Soukya Road at Kacharakanahalli, Hoskote taluk, Bengaluru 560067, off NH 75 (Old Madras Road), about 30 km east of the city centre and a short drive from Whitefield. Amazon’s BLR5 sits on the same road, which is why “bangalore flipkart warehouse location” searches often surface both. It operates as an FBF fulfilment centre, and stock allotted here needs the Karnataka GSTIN with the Hoskote address as an APOB.

Flipkart publishes no list, so copy the address for the amendment from your Seller Hub allotment letter rather than from a directory. Whichever site you are allotted is an APOB on the same Karnataka GSTIN; a later second allotment is one more amendment, not a new registration.

Which Flipkart selling models need a Karnataka GSTIN?

A Karnataka GSTIN is needed only when Flipkart keeps your goods inside Karnataka; selling to Karnataka buyers from a warehouse elsewhere does not create one. Flipkart’s Seller Hub describes three ways to fulfil orders, and the table applies Section 22 to each.

ModelWho stores, packs and shipsNeed a Karnataka GSTIN?Why
Flipkart Fulfilment (FBF)Flipkart stores at Malur, Nelamangala or Hoskote, packs and ships through EkartYes, once allotted a Karnataka FC Goods at a Flipkart FC in Karnataka are your place of business under Section 2(85); the FC is filed as APOB
Smart Fulfilment You hold stock at your own warehouse and pack to Flipkart’s standard; Ekart collects and delivers Only if your warehouse is in KarnatakaThe registration follows where the goods sit, not where Ekart delivers
Seller-fulfilled (non-FBF)You store and pack; Ekart picks up from your addressOnly if your premises are in KarnatakaSame rule; no Flipkart-held inventory

The Flipkart Assured badge is the practical reason sellers move to FBF: it attaches to listings that pass Flipkart’s quality checks and are delivered in two to four days, which in practice means stock positioned in Flipkart’s own FC. A Delhi seller who wants the badge on orders from Bengaluru and Chennai therefore ends up with a Karnataka registration whether or not they planned one. The cost and control trade-offs are set out in when to consider Fulfilment by Flipkart and the fee side in Flipkart seller fees.

Do you need GST to sell on Flipkart from Karnataka?

For taxable goods, yes, and Seller Hub asks for the GSTIN before a taxable listing can be created. The rule is Section 24(ix) of the CGST Act, 2017: anyone supplying goods through an e-commerce operator that collects tax at source under Section 52 must register regardless of turnover. Flipkart is such an operator and, like every marketplace, deducts TCS at 0.5% of the net taxable value under Notification 15/2024-Central Tax from 10 July 2024; the credit reaches your electronic cash ledger once Flipkart files GSTR-8.

There is one relaxation. Notification 34/2023-Central Tax, in force from 1 October 2023, lets an unregistered supplier of goods sell through a marketplace if turnover stays under the Section 22 threshold, every sale is intra-state, and an enrolment number has been taken on the GST portal. A Bengaluru artisan selling only to Karnataka buyers from a Karnataka address could use it. An FBF seller cannot: goods at Malur serve buyers in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, which is inter-state supply, and Flipkart’s own onboarding does not recognise the enrolment number for taxable products.

Flipkart’s seller-facing guides treat the GSTIN as a standing requirement. Our own Flipkart seller GST registration post reaches the same conclusion: no exemption by turnover for marketplace sellers, and one GSTIN per state in which Flipkart stores your goods. For the general thresholds, forms and fees, see GST registration in India.

How to get a Karnataka GSTIN for Flipkart Fulfilment on a virtual address: step by step

You obtain the Karnataka GSTIN by filing Form GST REG-01 on the GST portal with the rented Bangalore address declared as the Principal Place of Business; with Aadhaar authentication a low-risk application is granted electronically in 3 working days.

  1. Line up the address proof.

Within 72 hours of KYC, myHQ delivers the rent agreement in your legal name, the owner’s no-objection certificate and the most recent electricity bill for the Bangalore premises, the documents Rule 8 and CBIC Instruction 03/2025-GST expect for a rented PPOB. What officers look for in each is covered in address proof for GST registration and consent letter for GST registration.

  2. Open the portal and complete Part A.

On gst.gov.in go to Services, Registration, New Registration: legal name as printed on PAN, PAN, and the primary signatory’s mobile and email. Separate OTPs, each valid 10 minutes, produce a Temporary Reference Number (TRN); the TRN and any saved data lapse after 15 days.

  3. Fill Part B tab by tab.

Re-enter with the TRN and work through the Part B tabs from Business Details to Verification. Under Business Details, an FBF seller with no other Karnataka activity picks “supply through e-commerce operator” as the reason for registration.

  4. Enter the Bangalore address as the PPOB.

Key it in exactly as the rent agreement spells it, set nature of possession to “Rented”, and upload the rent agreement with the owner’s electricity bill as proof of the lessor’s ownership, plus the NOC, PDF or JPEG up to 1 MB each. Tick “Have Additional Places of Business” if you already hold Flipkart’s consent letter for the Karnataka FC.

  5. Complete Aadhaar authentication.

Select it for the primary signatory and one promoter. Rule 9A, inserted by Notification 18/2025-Central Tax effective 1 November 2025, grants low-risk applications within 3 working days; declining Aadhaar means document upload or a photo visit at a GST Suvidha Kendra, explained in biometric authentication in GST registration.

  6. Submit and track the ARN.

Submit with DSC (compulsory for companies and LLPs), e-Sign or EVC. The Application Reference Number reaches your mobile and email in about 15 minutes. Outside Rule 9A, Rule 9(1) allows the officer 7 working days, or 30 days where physical verification under Rule 25 is ordered.

  7. Answer any query.

Form GST REG-03 gives 7 working days to reply in Form GST REG-04; an unanswered notice ends in rejection under Form GST REG-05. GST notice during registration shows how to draft the reply, and GST registration rejected how to reapply if it goes wrong.

  8. Download the certificate.

Form GST REG-06 appears under Services, User Services, View/Download Certificates. The GSTIN starts with 29 and shows the Bangalore address as PPOB. Bank account details are due within 30 days of grant under the GSTN advisory of 20 November 2025; see company bank account verification for what the bank wants.

Expect Karnataka to verify more often than most states. Officers use Rule 25 site visits for new virtual-address registrations before or after approval; the myHQ partner space receives the visit with your agreement and NOC on file, and the signage add-on displays your business name. What a visit involves is in GST physical verification with a virtual office.

How to add a Flipkart fulfilment centre as an APOB: step by step

The Flipkart FC goes onto your Karnataka GSTIN through a core-field amendment in Form GST REG-14, supported by Flipkart’s consent letter for the site, and Rule 19 gives the officer 15 working days to approve it. The order is Seller Hub, then the GST portal, then Seller Hub again.

  1. Get allotted and get the letter.

Opt in to Flipkart Fulfilment in Seller Hub and complete FBF onboarding; Flipkart allots a Karnataka FC and provides a consent letter or no-objection certificate naming your seller account and the FC address. The letter must be current and specific to your account.

  2. Open the amendment.

Log in to the Karnataka GSTIN on gst.gov.in and open Services, Registration, Amendment of Registration Core Fields. On the Additional Places of Business tab, enter the number of places to add and click Add New.

  3. Enter the FC exactly as the letter has it.

Villages, hobli, taluk, district and PIN: 563130 for Malur, 562162 for Nelamangala, 560067 for Hoskote. Under nature of business activity tick “Warehouse/Depot”. For nature of possession choose “Consent” and upload Flipkart’s letter, or “Others” if the officer’s practice in your Karnataka range prefers it; two PDF or JPEG files up to 1 MB each.

  4. State the reason and submit.

Give the reason (“addition of place of business, Flipkart fulfilment centre”) and the effective date, then submit with DSC or EVC. The ARN confirms Form GST REG-14 is filed. Rule 19(1) expects the amendment within 15 days of the change, so file before the inbound appointment, not after the stock lands.

  5. Wait for approval.

Track it under Services, Registration, Track Application Status. Rule 19 gives 15 working days, after which the amendment is deemed approved; the order issues in Form GST REG-15 and the refreshed Form GST REG-06 lists the FC. A REG-03 query at this stage almost always means the address string differs from the consent letter.

  6. Register the GSTIN in Seller Hub.

Go to Account, Business Details, Tax Details, add the Karnataka GSTIN and upload the REG-06. Flipkart validates it against GSTN in 24 to 48 hours. Some Seller Hub versions label this Profile, Tax Details, Add State.

  7. Book the inbound.

Once the Karnataka GSTIN shows as verified and the FC is on your certificate, the FBF inbound calendar opens for the allotted site and your transporter can deliver to it.

A seller who already holds Flipkart’s consent letter can put the FC on the Additional Places of Business tab of REG-01 and skip the amendment. The generic mechanics are in how to add an additional place of business in GST, the marketplace variant in how to register an e-commerce FC as APOB, and moving the PPOB itself in how to change GST address.

Documents checklist for Karnataka Flipkart sellers

Freelancers and sole proprietors sign in their own name and skip the resolution; the thresholds that apply to them are in GST for freelancers. If your NOC is issued by myHQ rather than the property owner, owner NOC vs virtual office NOC explains which one Karnataka officers accept.

Why Karnataka GST applications and Flipkart APOB additions get rejected

Officer-side rejections in Karnataka almost always come down to documents that disagree with each other; Flipkart-side delays come from a GSTIN or address that Seller Hub cannot match. Eight causes cover nearly every case.

  1. Rent agreement, NOC and electricity bill carry three different address strings. Fix: file the myHQ set, issued together for one premises, and enter the PPOB exactly as the agreement reads.
  2. Electricity bill more than two months old, or in a stranger’s name. Fix: ask for the current bill; the portal treats the owner’s bill as the lessor’s ownership proof behind a rented address.
  3. NOC that does not name the applicant, the address and GST registration as the purpose. Fix: use the format in NOC for GST registration; vague consent draws a REG-03.
  4. Legal name on the agreement that differs from PAN or from the Seller Hub business name. Fix: align all three before filing; storefront names belong in the trade name field.
  5. Physical verification with nothing to see. Fix: warn myHQ so the partner space has the file ready, and take signage if you want the name displayed.
  6. FC address on REG-14 that departs from Flipkart’s consent letter. Fix: paste the address from the letter, village and hobli spellings included.
  7. GSTIN entered in Seller Hub before the FC appears on REG-06, or entered under the wrong state. Fix: wait for the updated certificate, then add the GSTIN under Tax Details for Karnataka specifically.
  8. Consent letter issued to a different seller account or an older allotment. Fix: request a fresh letter for the current account and FC before your CA files.

Where a registration has been cancelled over the address, GST registration cancelled due to address issues sets out revocation, and GST clarification guide covers the reply to a query. Storing at a Flipkart FC that is not on your certificate is a breach of Rule 19(1); the general penalty under Section 125 of the CGST Act is up to Rs 25,000, mirrored under the Karnataka SGST Act, with Section 126 requiring restraint for minor, rectifiable breaches.

How myHQ helps Flipkart sellers in Karnataka

myHQ provides the rented Bangalore address that becomes your Karnataka PPOB and the three documents the Karnataka officer and the Flipkart APOB filing both rest on: rent agreement, owner’s NOC and electricity bill, issued in your legal name within 72 hours of KYC. The network covers 25 or more cities, has served 10,000 or more clients, and backs GST, ROC and bank filings on its documents with a 100% acceptance guarantee and a 30-day money-back.

Add-ons match the FBF path: APOB support for the Flipkart FC amendment, CA assistance for REG-01 and REG-14, Tatkal when a Big Billion Days inbound is close, and signage for the Karnataka verification visit.
