Don’t have a virtual address?
Once the GSTIN is live, add the fulfilment centre as an Additional Place of Business on the GST portal. Ensure the APOB shows on your registration before you dispatch.
myHQ provides a Lucknow virtual office address that serves as your Uttar Pradesh Principal Place of Business (PPOB) for GST. With it you register an Uttar Pradesh GSTIN (state code 09) and add Amazon’s LKO1 fulfilment centre as an Additional Place of Business (APOB), which Amazon requires before you store FBA inventory in the state.
A Virtual Place of Business (VPOB) is a commercial address you rent, supported by a rent agreement and the owner’s consent, and declare on a GST registration in a state where you have no office. Amazon FBA sellers need one in Uttar Pradesh because GST registration is granted state by state, and cartons received at LKO1 in Lucknow make Uttar Pradesh a state from which you supply goods, however far away your home office is.
The portal itself never uses the word VPOB; it works in PPOB and APOB, and the difference decides which document goes into which tab.
| Term | Full form and what it means for an FBA seller in Uttar Pradesh | Where it appears on the GST portal |
|---|---|---|
| PPOB | Principal Place of Business: the lead address of the Uttar Pradesh registration and the one printed on the certificate; the rented Lucknow address takes this role | REG-01, Part B, “Principal Place of Business” tab |
| APOB | Additional Place of Business: any other Uttar Pradesh location where your goods are stored or your books are kept; LKO1 is entered here | REG-01 “Additional Places of Business” tab, or later by Form GST REG-14 (Amendment of Registration Core Fields) |
| VPOB | Virtual Place of Business: the market term for a rented address used as PPOB; proof is the rent agreement, the owner’s NOC and a recent electricity bill | PPOB tab, nature of possession “Rented” |
Three sections carry the rule. Section 2(85) of the CGST Act, 2017 says a “place of business” includes a warehouse, a godown or any other place where a taxable person stores goods. Section 22(1) places the duty to register in “the State or Union territory from where he makes a taxable supply”, and Section 25(1) demands a separate application in each such state within 30 days of becoming liable. A Delhi or Haryana GSTIN, common among NCR sellers, therefore covers nothing that Amazon dispatches from Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh’s code in the GST state code list is 09, the first two digits of every Uttar Pradesh GSTIN, and one GSTIN on one Uttar Pradesh address covers LKO1. Stamp duty on the rent agreement and the ROC that covers the state are set out in virtual office rules by state.
Can LKO1 itself be the PPOB? No. Amazon Seller Services Private Limited holds the Bhukapur premises, and the NOC it issues to sellers permits the storage of goods at the FC and nothing else; the portal wants the PPOB to be premises you occupy under your own agreement or the owner’s consent in your name. A virtual place of business closes that gap, and LKO1 then sits on the registration as an APOB. Filing from a flat is possible but invites the queries described in home address for GST registration; the national background is in what a VPOB is and when you should register one.
Amazon’s Indian fulfilment centres are coded with the IATA code of the nearest major airport plus a serial, so LKO stands for Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow, and LKO1 is the first fulfilment centre in that series; the serial is generally read as commissioning order rather than size. For an Uttar Pradesh FBA seller the practical list is one code: LKO1 goes on the Uttar Pradesh GSTIN as an APOB, and anything else is added only if Amazon’s NOC for your account names it.
LKO1 is Amazon’s FBA fulfilment centre at Khasra No. 472 and others, Village Bhukapur, Tehsil Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, PIN 226401, on the Kanpur Road (NH 27) side of the city beyond Amausi airport. Independent seller FC lists carry this address word for word, and it is the code on the NOC Amazon issues for Uttar Pradesh. “Amazon LKO1”, “LKO1 Amazon address” and “Amazon warehouse in Lucknow” all describe this building; storing here needs an Uttar Pradesh GSTIN with LKO1 filed as an APOB.
An Uttar Pradesh GSTIN is required only when Amazon holds your goods inside the state; delivering to Lucknow or Noida customers from a warehouse elsewhere creates no Uttar Pradesh liability. Amazon.in offers four ways to fulfil an order, and Section 22 applies to each in the table.
| Model | Who stores, packs and ships | Need an Uttar Pradesh GSTIN? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) | Amazon stores at LKO1, packs and delivers | Yes, once you inbound to LKO1 | Goods at an Amazon FC in Uttar Pradesh are your place of business under Section 2(85); LKO1 is filed as APOB |
| Easy Ship | You store and pack at your own premises; Amazon collects and delivers | Only if your godown is in Uttar Pradesh | Stock stays in your registered state; the ship-from state is where you are registered |
| Self Ship | You store, pack and courier the order yourself | Only if your premises are in Uttar Pradesh | Same reasoning; Amazon holds nothing |
| Seller Flex | Your own site runs as a virtual FC under Amazon’s systems (invite only) | Only if the Seller Flex site is in Uttar Pradesh | A warehouse of your own in the state is itself a place of business, filed as PPOB or APOB |
The NCR seller’s position is worth spelling out. A Gurugram or Delhi Easy Ship seller who moves to FBA and whose shipment plan routes stock to a Haryana FC needs Haryana, not Uttar Pradesh; the same seller routed to LKO1 needs Uttar Pradesh. A Kanpur or Agra manufacturer already registered in the state adds LKO1 as a second place of business on the GSTIN it holds, by REG-14, with no new registration at all. For the fee and control trade-offs between the models, read when to consider Fulfilment by Amazon.
Yes, for any taxable product: Amazon treats seller GST registration as a listing condition and will not switch on a taxable listing without a GSTIN. Under Section 24(ix) of the CGST Act, 2017, anyone supplying goods through an e-commerce operator that must collect tax at source under Section 52 has to register, with no turnover threshold at all. Amazon.in is such an operator; since 10 July 2024 it has deducted TCS at 0.5% under Notification 15/2024-Central Tax, and the amount reaches your electronic cash ledger through Amazon’s GSTR-8.
The relaxation is narrow. Since 1 October 2023, Notification 34/2023-Central Tax has lifted Section 24(ix) for a goods supplier who stays below the Section 22 threshold, sells inside a single state and holds an enrolment number from the portal. A Varanasi weaver selling only to Uttar Pradesh buyers from a Varanasi address could use it. An FBA seller cannot, because stock at LKO1 is sold to Delhi, Patna and Bhopal, which is inter-state supply, and because Amazon’s onboarding asks for the GSTIN before a taxable listing exists. Amazon’s own GST FAQ for sellers makes the same point from its side: goods shipped out of a state need that state’s GSTIN.
If everything you sell is GST-exempt, books for instance, Amazon takes your PAN in place of a GSTIN; one taxable SKU brings the requirement back. Thresholds, forms and fees in general are in our GST registration in India guide.
The Uttar Pradesh GSTIN is obtained by filing Form GST REG-01 on the GST portal with the Lucknow virtual office address as the Principal Place of Business; a low-risk applicant who authenticates with Aadhaar receives it in 3 working days, and an applicant the portal flags adds one visit to a GST Suvidha Kendra first.
Within 72 hours of KYC, myHQ issues the rent agreement in your legal name, the owner’s no-objection certificate and the latest electricity bill for the Lucknow premises, the set Rule 8 and CBIC Instruction 03/2025-GST (17 April 2025) treat as proof of a rented PPOB. What an officer reads in each is in address proof for GST registration and NOC for GST registration.
On gst.gov.in go to Services, Registration, New Registration: state Uttar Pradesh, legal name exactly as on PAN, PAN, and the primary authorised signatory’s mobile and email. Two OTPs, each valid 10 minutes, produce a Temporary Reference Number (TRN), which lapses with its saved data after 15 days; see what a TRN is.
Log in with the TRN and work through Business Details (constitution, district Lucknow, date liability arose, reason “supply through e-commerce operator” for a pure FBA seller), Promoters, Authorised Signatory, Principal Place of Business, Additional Places of Business, Goods and Services (top five HSN codes), Aadhaar Authentication and Verification.
Type the address as the rent agreement writes it, choose “Rented” as the nature of possession, and upload the rent agreement with the owner’s electricity bill (proof of the lessor’s ownership) and the NOC, PDF or JPEG, 1 MB each. Tick “Have Additional Places of Business” if Amazon’s LKO1 NOC is already downloaded and can go in the same filing.
Pick it for the primary signatory and one promoter. Under Rule 9A, which Notification 18/2025-Central Tax brought in from 1 November 2025, a low-risk application is granted within 3 working days. Uttar Pradesh joined Rule 8(4A) biometric-based Aadhaar authentication on 15 March 2025, with GST Suvidha Kendra appointment booking open from 18 March 2025; a flagged applicant receives a booking link instead of an OTP link, attends a GSK with original PAN and Aadhaar, and the ARN generates after the visit. Biometric authentication in GST registration lists what to carry.
File with DSC, which a company or LLP must use, or with e-Sign or EVC. Within about 15 minutes you get the Application Reference Number; how to check GST application status with the TRN shows how to follow it. If Rule 9A does not apply, Rule 9(1) allows 7 working days, and up to 30 when the officer orders a Rule 25 site inspection.
A Form GST REG-03 notice allows 7 working days to reply in Form GST REG-04 with the clarification or the missing document; no reply ends in rejection under Form GST REG-05. The GST clarification guide covers the reply and GST registration rejected the reapplication.
Form GST REG-06 sits under Services, User Services, View/Download Certificates, with the Lucknow address as PPOB and a 15-digit GSTIN beginning 09. Under the GSTN advisory of 20 November 2025, bank account details must be furnished within 30 days of grant; the upload is in how to add a bank account in the GST portal and the current account in company bank account verification.
| REG-01 field | What to enter for an Uttar Pradesh VPOB |
|---|---|
| State | Uttar Pradesh |
| Legal name | Exactly as on PAN and on the myHQ rent agreement |
| Reason to obtain registration | “Supply through e-commerce operator” for an FBA seller with no other Uttar Pradesh turnover; otherwise the turnover-based reason |
| Principal Place of Business | The myHQ Lucknow address, character for character as on the agreement |
| Nature of possession of premises | Rented |
| Proof of principal place of business | Rent agreement plus the owner’s electricity bill; NOC as the second document |
Uttar Pradesh is the country’s largest GST registration market, and its busiest ranges see a high share of rented-address applications; the biometric step since March 2025 and Rule 25 site visits to a new rented PPOB, before or after grant, are both routine here. The visit goes to the myHQ partner space, which keeps your agreement and NOC on file and receives the officer; the signage add-on puts your business name on the board. GST physical verification with a virtual office walks through the visit.
Adding LKO1 as an Additional Place of Business is a core-field amendment to your Uttar Pradesh GSTIN in Form GST REG-14 with Amazon’s documents attached, and Rule 19 of the CGST Rules allows the officer 15 working days to approve it. The sequence runs Seller Central first, the GST portal second, Seller Central again to finish.
In Seller Central go to Settings, Account Info, Manage under Your Services, then Add FC; on the Register FCs tab select LKO1 and download the Business Services Agreement and the no-objection certificate for it. Amazon’s FBA page adds that the chosen FC has to be filed as an APOB.
Log in to the Uttar Pradesh GSTIN on gst.gov.in and go to Services, Registration, Amendment of Registration Core Fields. Open the Additional Places of Business tab, set the number of places you are adding and click Add New.
Khasra No. 472 and others, Village Bhukapur, Tehsil Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, PIN 226401, copied from the NOC. Select “Warehouse/Depot” for the nature of business activity. For nature of possession select “Consent” and upload Amazon’s NOC with the Business Services Agreement as the second document, or “Others” if the Lucknow range prefers it; PDF or JPEG up to 1 MB, two documents per place.
Give the reason for amendment (“addition of place of business, Amazon fulfilment centre”) and the date of change, and sign with DSC or EVC. An ARN issues and Form GST REG-14 stands filed. Rule 19(1) asks for the amendment within 15 days of the change, so file before the first inbound to LKO1.
Rule 19 gives the officer 15 working days, after which the amendment is deemed approved; the approval issues in Form GST REG-15 and the refreshed Form GST REG-06 lists LKO1 under additional places of business. A REG-03 at this stage nearly always means the address string differs from Amazon’s NOC by a khasra number.
Go to Settings, Tax Settings, Manage GST Details, Add GST Number, enter the Uttar Pradesh GSTIN and upload the REG-06 PDF. Amazon’s check against the GST network takes about 3 business days. Set the Lucknow address as the default ship-from address for that GSTIN; the ship-from state and the GSTIN state must match.
Back in the FBA registration workflow, upload the amended REG-06 showing LKO1 as APOB. Once Amazon enables the FC for your account, Send to Amazon accepts a shipment plan to LKO1 from the Uttar Pradesh ship-from address.
If Amazon’s NOC is already in hand, put LKO1 on the Additional Places of Business tab of REG-01 and the certificate issues with the FC on it. For the general APOB procedure see how to add an additional place of business in GST; for the marketplace version, how to register an e-commerce FC as APOB; and for moving the PPOB, how to change GST address.
Three parties contribute to the file: myHQ for the address, you for the entity, Amazon for the FC. Each file goes up as PDF or JPEG and must stay under the portal’s 1 MB cap.
| From myHQ (PPOB) | From you (entity) | From Amazon (APOB) |
|---|---|---|
| Rent agreement for the Lucknow address in your legal name, stamped as Uttar Pradesh requires | PAN of the business (or proprietor) | Business Services Agreement for LKO1 |
| No-objection certificate from the property owner permitting GST registration at the address | Aadhaar of the primary authorised signatory and one promoter, for OTP or biometric authentication | No-objection certificate for LKO1, downloaded from the Register FCs tab |
| Latest electricity bill for the premises, under two months old, as the owner’s ownership proof | Certificate of incorporation, LLP agreement or partnership deed; board resolution or authorisation letter for the signatory | FC address string exactly as it appears in the NOC, khasra numbers and tehsil included |
| Passport-size photograph of the signatory and promoters (100 KB each) | Amended REG-06 showing LKO1, uploaded back into the FBA registration workflow | |
| Cancelled cheque or bank statement, furnished within 30 days of grant | ||
| DSC for a company or LLP | ||
| Original PAN and Aadhaar carried to the GST Suvidha Kendra if a biometric slot is booked |
A sole proprietor who signs for themselves needs no board resolution; GST for freelancers sets out the thresholds that apply to one-person businesses. Whether the property owner’s NOC or a myHQ-issued one is the right document is answered in owner NOC vs virtual office NOC, and consent letter for GST registration gives wording that Lucknow officers accept.
From ordering the address to a live inbound at LKO1, allow three to five weeks with Aadhaar authentication and a clean file, and up to eight weeks if a GST Suvidha Kendra slot, a site visit or a query is added.
| Stage | Time | Governing provision |
|---|---|---|
| myHQ documents (rent agreement, NOC, electricity bill) | Within 72 hours of KYC | myHQ service standard; Tatkal add-on for faster turnaround |
| REG-01 filed to GSTIN granted | 3 working days (low-risk, Aadhaar-authenticated); 7 working days otherwise; up to 30 days with physical verification | Rule 9A (Notification 18/2025-CT, 1 November 2025); Rule 9(1); Rule 25 |
| GST Suvidha Kendra biometric slot, if flagged | Days, depending on GSK availability | Rule 8(4A); live for Uttar Pradesh from 15 March 2025 |
| Reply to a REG-03 query | 7 working days from the notice | Rule 9(2), Form GST REG-04 |
| APOB amendment (REG-14) to amended REG-06 | Up to 15 working days; deemed approved after that | Rule 19(2) and (3) |
| Amazon verification of the Uttar Pradesh GSTIN | About 3 business days | Seller Central Tax Settings |
| Realistic total | Three to five weeks; up to eight with a GSK slot, a site visit and a query |
| Cost item | Amount |
|---|---|
| GST registration fee on gst.gov.in | Nil |
| APOB amendment fee | Nil |
| VPOB (virtual office) in one state | Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 a year per state, depending on city and plan |
| Physical office in one state, for comparison | Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh a year |
| Ten-state FBA footprint | Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh a year on VPOBs against Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh on offices |
| CA fees for REG-01 and REG-14 | Vary; bundled in myHQ’s CA assistance add-on |
Most Uttar Pradesh rejections come down to three documents that disagree, a biometric slot that was never attended, or a PPOB the officer could not find; most Amazon-side blocks come down to a GSTIN whose certificate does not yet show LKO1. The eight below account for almost all of them; each comes with its remedy.
Where an address problem has already led to cancellation, GST registration cancelled due to address issues covers revocation. Storing goods at an FC that is not on your certificate breaches Rule 19(1); the exposure is the general penalty under Section 125 of the CGST Act, up to Rs 25,000 plus the same again under the Uttar Pradesh GST Act, 2017, with Section 126 requiring restraint for minor, rectifiable breaches.
myHQ provides the Uttar Pradesh PPOB and the paperwork that the state application and the LKO1 APOB filing both rest on: rent agreement, owner’s NOC and electricity bill, issued in your legal name within 72 hours of KYC. The network covers 25 or more cities and 10,000 or more clients, and GST, ROC and bank filings on those documents carry a 100% acceptance guarantee with a 30-day money-back.
Add-ons follow the FBA path: APOB support for the Amazon FC amendment, CA assistance for REG-01 and REG-14, Tatkal when a Great Indian Festival inbound is close, and signage for the verification visit.
