Don’t have a virtual address?
Once the GSTIN is live, add the fulfilment centre as an Additional Place of Business on the GST portal. Ensure the APOB shows on your registration before you dispatch.
myHQ provides an Ahmedabad virtual office address that serves as your Gujarat Principal Place of Business (PPOB) for GST. With it you register a Gujarat GSTIN (state code 24) and add Amazon’s AMD2 fulfilment centre at Bavla as an Additional Place of Business (APOB), which Amazon requires before you store FBA inventory in the state.
A Virtual Place of Business, shortened to VPOB, is a rented commercial address, backed by a rent agreement and the owner’s consent, that you declare on a GST registration in a state where you keep no office of your own. Amazon FBA sellers in Gujarat need one because registration under GST is granted state by state, and cartons received at AMD2 in Bavla make Gujarat a state from which you supply goods, whatever your home state.
The GST portal never prints the word VPOB. It works with PPOB and APOB, and the distinction decides which document is uploaded where.
| Term | Full form and what it means for an FBA seller in Gujarat | Where it appears on the GST portal |
|---|---|---|
| PPOB | Principal Place of Business: the lead address of the Gujarat registration and the one on the certificate; the rented Ahmedabad address takes this role | REG-01, Part B, “Principal Place of Business” tab |
| APOB | Additional Place of Business: any other Gujarat location where your goods sit or your books are kept; AMD2 is entered here | REG-01 “Additional Places of Business” tab, or later by Form GST REG-14 (Amendment of Registration Core Fields) |
| VPOB | Virtual Place of Business: the market term for a rented address used as PPOB; proof is the rent agreement, the owner’s NOC and a recent electricity bill | PPOB tab, nature of possession “Rented” |
The law is three sections long. Section 2(85) of the CGST Act, 2017 defines “place of business” to include a warehouse, a godown or any other place where a taxable person stores goods. Section 22(1) attaches the duty to register to “the State or Union territory from where he makes a taxable supply”, and Section 25(1) requires a separate application in every such state within 30 days of becoming liable. A Maharashtra or Rajasthan GSTIN therefore covers nothing that Amazon dispatches from Bavla. Gujarat’s code in the GST state code list is 24, the first two digits of every Gujarat GSTIN, and how Gujarat officers differ from other states in what they accept for a rented address is covered in virtual office rules by state.
Could the FC itself be your PPOB? No. Amazon Seller Services Private Limited holds the Gallops Industrial Park premises, and the NOC it issues to sellers permits storage of goods at the FC and nothing more; the portal expects the PPOB to be premises you hold under your own agreement or the owner’s consent in your name. That gap is what a virtual place of business fills, with AMD2 then filed on that registration as an APOB. For the national picture read what a VPOB is and when you should register one; the rest of this page is specific to Amazon and to Gujarat.
Amazon’s Indian fulfilment centres take their codes from the IATA code of the nearest large airport plus a serial number, so AMD stands for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, and AMD2 is a Gujarat FC in that series; the serial is generally read as the order in which sites were commissioned. Sortation centres and delivery stations use different four-letter codes that never appear on FBA documents, and some places that show up in customer tracking, Changodar GIDC among them, are named after the industrial estate rather than a code. For a Gujarat FBA seller the practical list is short: AMD2 is the code that appears on Amazon’s Gujarat NOC and goes on the Gujarat GSTIN as an APOB, and Changodar is answered below.
AMD2 is Amazon’s FBA fulfilment centre at Plot no. 120 X and 119 W2, Gallops Industrial Park 1, Village Rajoda, Taluka Bavla, District Ahmedabad, PIN 382220, on the Ahmedabad to Bagodara highway (NH-47) about 30 km south-west of Ahmedabad city. Searches for “AMD2 Amazon” and “Amazon warehouse Ahmedabad” both point to this building; storing here needs a Gujarat GSTIN with AMD2 as an APOB.
It is the Amazon site named in tracking updates as “Changodar GIDC, Gujarat IN”, on the Ahmedabad to Rajkot highway in Changodar GIDC, Sanand taluka, about 22 km west of Ahmedabad. That tracking string is what drives the searches for “changodar gidc amazon”. No Amazon source calls it an FBA fulfilment centre and it carries no code on seller documents, so treat it as a facility you may see in a delivery update rather than a warehouse you can file: add it as an APOB only if Amazon’s NOC for your account names it. Otherwise the Gujarat FC to file is AMD2.
A Gujarat GSTIN is needed only when Amazon holds your goods inside Gujarat; delivering to Ahmedabad or Surat buyers from a warehouse in another state creates no Gujarat liability. Amazon.in gives sellers four ways to fulfil, and Section 22 applies to each as follows.
| Model | Who stores, packs and ships | Need a Gujarat GSTIN? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) | Amazon stores at AMD2, packs and delivers | Yes, once you inbound to AMD2 | Goods at an Amazon FC in Gujarat are your place of business under Section 2(85); AMD2 is filed as APOB |
| Easy Ship | You store and pack at your own premises; Amazon collects and delivers | Only if your godown is in Gujarat | Stock never leaves your registered state; the ship-from state is where you are registered |
| Self Ship | You store, pack and courier the order yourself | Only if your premises are in Gujarat | Same reasoning; Amazon holds nothing |
| Seller Flex | Your own site runs as a virtual FC under Amazon’s systems (invite only) | Only if the Seller Flex site is in Gujarat | A Gujarat warehouse of your own is itself a place of business, filed as PPOB or APOB |
The consequence for a Surat or Rajkot manufacturer already registered in Gujarat is the opposite of the out-of-state seller’s: AMD2 is a second place of business on the GSTIN you already hold, filed by REG-14, with no new registration at all. For an Easy Ship seller in Mumbai or Jaipur who wants Prime tags on Gujarat orders, FBA at AMD2 means a Gujarat GSTIN first. When to consider Fulfilment by Amazon weighs the models on fees and control.
Yes for any taxable product: Amazon seller GST registration is a listing condition, and Amazon will not activate a taxable listing without a GSTIN. Section 24(ix) of the CGST Act, 2017 makes registration compulsory, with no turnover threshold, for anyone supplying goods through an e-commerce operator that must collect tax at source under Section 52. Amazon.in is such an operator and deducts TCS at 0.5% under Notification 15/2024-Central Tax from 10 July 2024, credited back to your electronic cash ledger through its GSTR-8.
The relaxation is narrow. Notification 34/2023-Central Tax, effective 1 October 2023, waives Section 24(ix) for a supplier of goods who stays under the Section 22 threshold, sells only within one state and takes an enrolment number on the portal. A Kutch handicraft seller shipping only to Gujarat buyers from a Gujarat address could use it. An FBA seller cannot, because stock at AMD2 is sold to Mumbai and Jaipur, which is inter-state supply, and because Amazon’s onboarding asks for the GSTIN before a taxable listing exists. Amazon’s own GST FAQ for sellers says the same thing from the other side: goods shipped out of a state need that state’s GSTIN.
If every product you sell is GST-exempt, books for example, Amazon takes your PAN in place of a GSTIN; a single taxable SKU brings the requirement back. The general thresholds, forms and fees are in our GST registration in India guide.
The Gujarat GSTIN is obtained by filing Form GST REG-01 on the GST portal with the Ahmedabad virtual office address as the Principal Place of Business; a low-risk applicant who authenticates with Aadhaar is granted it in 3 working days, and a flagged applicant adds one visit to a GST Suvidha Kendra.
Within 72 hours of KYC, myHQ issues the rent agreement in your legal name, the owner’s no-objection certificate and the latest electricity bill for the Ahmedabad premises, the set Rule 8 and CBIC Instruction 03/2025-GST treat as proof of a rented PPOB. What an officer checks in each is in address proof for GST registration and NOC for GST registration.
On gst.gov.in go to Services, Registration, New Registration: state Gujarat, legal name exactly as on PAN, PAN, and the primary authorised signatory’s mobile and email. Two OTPs, each valid 10 minutes, generate a Temporary Reference Number (TRN), which lapses with its saved data after 15 days; see what a TRN is.
Log back in with the TRN and complete Business Details (constitution, district Ahmedabad, date liability arose, reason “supply through e-commerce operator” for a pure FBA seller), Promoters, Authorised Signatory, Principal Place of Business, Additional Places of Business, Goods and Services (top five HSN codes), Aadhaar Authentication and Verification.
Type it as the rent agreement writes it, choose “Rented” as the nature of possession, and upload the rent agreement together with the owner’s electricity bill (proof of the lessor’s ownership) and the NOC, PDF or JPEG, 1 MB each. Tick “Have Additional Places of Business” if Amazon’s AMD2 NOC is already downloaded and can go in the same filing.
Opt for it for the primary signatory and one promoter. Rule 9A, inserted by Notification 18/2025-Central Tax from 1 November 2025, grants low-risk applications within 3 working days. Gujarat has applied Rule 8(4A) since Notification 27/2022-Central Tax of 26 December 2022 made it the pilot state for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication; the rule went nationwide in July 2024, but Ahmedabad’s GST Suvidha Kendras have the longest practice with it. If the portal flags your application, the link you receive books a GSK slot for biometrics, a photograph and an original-document check; biometric authentication in GST registration explains what to carry.
Submit with DSC (compulsory for a company or LLP), e-Sign or EVC. The Application Reference Number arrives in about 15 minutes; follow it as shown in how to check GST application status with the TRN. Without Rule 9A, Rule 9(1) allows the officer 7 working days, or 30 days if physical verification of the premises is ordered under Rule 25.
A Form GST REG-03 notice gives 7 working days to answer in Form GST REG-04 with the clarification or the missing document; silence ends in rejection under Form GST REG-05. The GST clarification guide covers the reply and GST registration rejected the reapplication.
Form GST REG-06 sits under Services, User Services, View/Download Certificates, with the Ahmedabad address as PPOB and a 15-digit GSTIN starting 24. Bank account details are due within 30 days of grant under the GSTN advisory of 20 November 2025; how to add a bank account in the GST portal covers the upload and company bank account verification the current account.
| REG-01 field | What to enter for a Gujarat VPOB |
|---|---|
| State | Gujarat |
| Legal name | Exactly as on PAN and on the myHQ rent agreement |
| Reason to obtain registration | “Supply through e-commerce operator” for an FBA seller with no other Gujarat turnover; otherwise the turnover-based reason |
| Principal Place of Business | The myHQ Ahmedabad address, character for character as on the agreement |
| Nature of possession of premises | Rented |
| Proof of principal place of business | Rent agreement plus the owner’s electricity bill; NOC as the second document |
Gujarat checks harder than most states, and has done so for longer: it piloted biometric authentication two and a half years before the rest of the country, and Rule 25 site visits to a new rented PPOB are ordered before or after grant. The visit goes to the myHQ partner space in Ahmedabad, which holds your agreement and NOC and receives the officer; the signage add-on puts your business name on the board. GST physical verification with a virtual office describes the visit.
Adding AMD2 as an Additional Place of Business is a core-field amendment to your Gujarat GSTIN in Form GST REG-14 with Amazon’s documents attached, and Rule 19 of the CGST Rules gives the officer 15 working days to approve it. The order is Seller Central, then the GST portal, then Seller Central again.
In Seller Central go to Settings, Account Info, Manage under Your Services, then Add FC; on the Register FCs tab select AMD2 and download the Business Services Agreement and the no-objection certificate for it. Amazon’s FBA page states that the chosen FC must be added as an APOB.
Log in to the Gujarat GSTIN on gst.gov.in and go to Services, Registration, Amendment of Registration Core Fields. On the Additional Places of Business tab enter the number of places to add and click Add New.
Plot no. 120 X and 119 W2, Gallops Industrial Park 1, Village Rajoda, Taluka Bavla, District Ahmedabad, PIN 382220, copied from the NOC. Tick “Warehouse/Depot” as the nature of business activity. For nature of possession select “Consent” and upload Amazon’s NOC with the Business Services Agreement as the second document, or “Others” if the Ahmedabad range prefers it; PDF or JPEG up to 1 MB, two documents per place.
Give the reason (“addition of place of business, Amazon fulfilment centre”) and the date of change, then submit with DSC or EVC. You receive an ARN and Form GST REG-14 is deemed filed. Rule 19(1) asks for the amendment within 15 days of the change, so file before the first inbound to AMD2.
Rule 19 gives the officer 15 working days, after which the amendment is deemed approved; the approval issues in Form GST REG-15 and the refreshed Form GST REG-06 lists AMD2 under additional places of business. A REG-03 at this stage nearly always means the address string differs from Amazon’s NOC by a plot number.
Go to Settings, Tax Settings, Manage GST Details, Add GST Number, enter the Gujarat GSTIN and upload the REG-06 PDF. Amazon checks it against the GST network in about 3 business days. Set the Ahmedabad address as the default ship-from address for that GSTIN; the ship-from state and the GSTIN state must match.
Back in the FBA registration workflow, upload the amended REG-06 showing AMD2 as APOB. Once Amazon enables the FC for your account, Send to Amazon accepts a shipment plan to AMD2 from the Gujarat ship-from address.
If Amazon’s NOC is already in hand, put AMD2 on the Additional Places of Business tab of REG-01 and the certificate issues with the FC on it. The generic procedure is in how to add an additional place of business in GST, the marketplace variant in how to register an e-commerce FC as APOB, and moving the PPOB itself in how to change GST address.
The file has three sources: myHQ for the address, you for the entity, Amazon for the FC. Every upload is PDF or JPEG within the portal’s 1 MB limit per file.
| From myHQ (PPOB) | From you (entity) | From Amazon (APOB) |
|---|---|---|
| Rent agreement for the Ahmedabad address in your legal name, stamped as Gujarat requires | PAN of the business (or proprietor) | Business Services Agreement for AMD2 |
| No-objection certificate from the property owner permitting GST registration at the address | Aadhaar of the primary authorised signatory and one promoter, for OTP or biometric authentication | No-objection certificate for AMD2, downloaded from the Register FCs tab |
| Latest electricity bill for the premises, under two months old, as the owner’s ownership proof | Certificate of incorporation, LLP agreement or partnership deed; board resolution or authorisation letter for the signatory | FC address string exactly as it appears in the NOC, plot numbers and park name included |
| Passport-size photograph of the signatory and promoters (100 KB each) | Amended REG-06 showing AMD2, uploaded back into the FBA registration workflow | |
| Cancelled cheque or bank statement, furnished within 30 days of grant | ||
| DSC for a company or LLP | ||
| Original PAN and Aadhaar carried to the GST Suvidha Kendra if a biometric slot is booked |
A proprietor signing in their own name skips the board resolution; the thresholds that apply to sole traders are in GST for freelancers. Whether the property owner’s NOC or a myHQ-issued one is the right document is answered in owner NOC vs virtual office NOC, and consent letter for GST registration gives the wording Ahmedabad officers accept.
From ordering the address to a live inbound at AMD2, plan for three to five weeks with Aadhaar authentication and a clean file, and up to eight weeks if a GST Suvidha Kendra slot, a site visit or a query is added.
| Stage | Time | Governing provision |
|---|---|---|
| myHQ documents (rent agreement, NOC, electricity bill) | Within 72 hours of KYC | myHQ service standard; Tatkal add-on for faster turnaround |
| REG-01 filed to GSTIN granted | 3 working days (low-risk, Aadhaar-authenticated); 7 working days otherwise; up to 30 days with physical verification | Rule 9A (Notification 18/2025-CT, 1 November 2025); Rule 9(1); Rule 25 |
| GST Suvidha Kendra biometric slot, if flagged | Days, depending on GSK availability in Ahmedabad | Rule 8(4A); Gujarat was the pilot state from 26 December 2022 |
| Reply to a REG-03 query | 7 working days from the notice | Rule 9(2), Form GST REG-04 |
| APOB amendment (REG-14) to amended REG-06 | Up to 15 working days; deemed approved after that | Rule 19(2) and (3) |
| Amazon verification of the Gujarat GSTIN | About 3 business days | Seller Central Tax Settings |
| Realistic total | Three to five weeks; up to eight with a GSK slot, a site visit and a query |
| Cost item | Amount |
|---|---|
| GST registration fee on gst.gov.in | Nil |
| APOB amendment fee | Nil |
| VPOB (virtual office) in one state | Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 a year per state, depending on city and plan |
| Physical office in Ahmedabad, for comparison | Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh a year |
| Ten-state FBA footprint | Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh a year on VPOBs against Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh on offices |
| CA fees for REG-01 and REG-14 | Vary; bundled in myHQ’s CA assistance add-on |
Most Gujarat rejections trace to three documents that disagree or to an applicant who skipped the biometric step, and most Amazon-side blocks trace to a GSTIN whose certificate does not yet show AMD2. Eight causes cover nearly every case, each with its fix.
If a registration has been cancelled over an address problem, GST registration cancelled due to address issues explains revocation. Storing goods at an FC that is not on your certificate breaches Rule 19(1); the exposure is the general penalty under Section 125 of the CGST Act, up to Rs 25,000 plus the same again under the Gujarat GST Act, 2017, with Section 126 requiring restraint for minor, rectifiable breaches.
myHQ supplies the Ahmedabad PPOB and the three documents the Gujarat application and the AMD2 APOB filing both rest on: rent agreement, owner’s NOC and electricity bill, issued in your legal name within 72 hours of KYC. The network covers 25 or more cities and 10,000 or more clients, and GST, ROC and bank filings on those documents carry a 100% acceptance guarantee with a 30-day money-back.
Add-ons follow the FBA path: APOB support for the Amazon FC amendment, CA assistance for REG-01 and REG-14, Tatkal when a Great Indian Festival inbound is close, and signage for the Ahmedabad verification visit.
